Bloodhound Foster Program
What is a foster?
Foster homes are the heart of SCBR. As a completely foster-based rescue, every bloodhound we take in lives in a real home — not a kennel — while they wait for their forever family. Our fosters give them love, structure and a soft place to land, and help us get to know each hound’s true personality so we can find them the perfect match.
Fostering takes a special kind of person: someone willing to open their heart and home to a hound, then cheer them on as they head off to their forever family. Saying goodbye isn’t always easy, but our fosters will tell you it’s one of the most rewarding things they’ve ever done — and every new foster home means one more bloodhound we can say yes to.
Foster ApplicationWhat does it take to be a foster?
• A completed foster application
• Like our adoptive homes, a yard with an above-ground fence
• Making the bloodhound in your care part of the family — most of our hounds go on to be companions and family pets
• Providing the basics: food, bowls, a crate and any other items needed for daily care
• Basic training to help your foster transition smoothly into an adoptive home
What does SCBR provide?
• All veterinary costs
• Heartworm prevention
• Flea prevention
• Guidance from our Rescue Director through every step of the foster process
You provide the love and the couch space — we’ve got the medical side covered.
Volunteer Opportunities
More ways to help our hounds
Not able to foster right now? There are plenty of other ways to make a difference. Our rescue runs entirely on volunteers, and every skill helps move a bloodhound one step closer to home.
Social Media & Content Creation
Put your influencer skills to work promoting our hounds and our mission across social media platforms. Great photos, videos and posts help our bloodhounds find their families faster.
Hound Transport
We adopt across the country, and sometimes a hound in need is far from an available foster or their new family. If you have a car and a valid driver’s license, you can help as one of our road warriors.
Hound Evaluations
Every hound we rescue needs to be thoroughly evaluated for temperament, health and compatibility with other animals. With proper training and support from our experienced team, you can help assess incoming bloodhounds.
Fundraising & Grant Writing
Rescue runs on resources. If you have a knack for grant writing, building corporate partnerships or researching foundation and government funding opportunities, we need you! Help us secure the grants and sponsorships that cover vet care, transport and everything else our hounds need.
