Adoption FAQ

What to expect when you adopt from SCBR

A foster-based rescue

SCBR is a completely foster-based program. We rescue and rehome hounds from kill shelters, strays and cruelty cases into loving foster homes, where they are loved and cared for until they are placed with their forever families.

Fully vetted

Every hound is evaluated by a veterinarian, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped before going home to an adopter. Rescues in need of more extensive medical attention are given the love and care required before being made available.

Areas we serve

Our home region covers AR, CO, LA, KS, OK, TX and NM most extensively, but we adopt to all areas of the United States using a network of volunteer transportation. Don’t see an available hound near you? Please inquire!

Fenced yard required

Due to the inquisitive and stubborn nature of most hounds, we require an above-ground fence for most homes. In rare cases, exceptions can be made for a dog who would do well on a ranch or for one of our Vintage Hounds.

Looking to foster instead?

Some of our hounds are still waiting for a soft place to land. Fostering gives a bloodhound a home while they wait for their forever family — and every foster home lets us say yes to one more hound.
