Rehoming a Hound
We know this is one of the hardest decisions you’ll ever make
Life changes — a move, a new baby, a health crisis, financial strain, or a hound whose needs have outgrown what your home can offer. Whatever has brought you here, we understand that letting go of a dog you love is heartbreaking, and we are not here to judge. Reaching out to a breed-specific rescue is a responsible, caring choice for your hound.
Hounds that come into SCBR are placed with one of our experienced foster families, where they are evaluated, given any veterinary care they need, and loved until we find the right forever home. Space in our foster network is limited, so please reach out as early as you can and tell us as much as possible about your hound — age, health, temperament, and how they do with children, cats and other dogs.
Owners surrendering a hound
Start by filling out our Surrender Inquiry. A volunteer will review it and contact you to talk through your hound’s needs, next steps and timing. Submitting an inquiry doesn’t commit you to anything — it simply starts the conversation so we can help you find the best path forward.
Shelters, rescues & good Samaritans
Are you a shelter or rescue with a bloodhound that needs to be transferred? Have you found a stray, or do you know of a hound in need? Please contact us. We work with shelters across the country and will do everything we can to help — just use the Surrender Inquiry form below.
